Worry Taming For Teens encourages cognitive-behavioural therapy techniques in order to change thinking patterns and behaviours, thereby managing anxiety. An entire chapter is devoted to different tools that can be used to trap, confront and challenge worries. Advanced tools for confronting and challenging worries are compiled in later chapters where readers learn to listen to their self-talk, learn about the triggers for worry, and learn to change the way they talk to themselves. The final chapter, while reminding teens that medications alone won't resolve anxiety problems, contains helpful descriptions of commonly prescribed anxiety medications, advice about how to monitor for side-effects, and how to discuss medications with a doctor. This series was developed by E. Jane Garland and Sandra Clark of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.
